If contrary to popular belief the goal of corporations is NOT to maximize shareholder profits what then is it’s goals?

A common idea proposed by economist Milton Freeman was that a company was to make as much profit for his corporation in as short amount of time as possible. But that statement was not an independent suggestion.

But this is not the whole story. In the interview below, this idea is discussed.

Where are the board of directors in a World Crisis?

Milton Freeman was the economist who originally provided this idea. But he said a lot of things. And at the same time he said a company should focus only on increasing stock value he also said that people should receive a guaranteed minimum income; what many are calling an unconditional basic income today. He said the two ideas should be happening at the same time.

In other words, he was trying to compartmentalize things into their own specific areas.

“All business organized over here and focused only on one thing. All people stuff over here in this area. All the red items in this box and all the green items over here. NO! I said don’t mix the colors!!! Red items with red items and green items with green items! You’re ruining everything! GAWD!”

The problem with what he said was explained in the video but that the business community took only half of his advice.

In his proposed way of things working you have to do both things. What he didn’t say was that if you only one thing the entire thing eventually collapses while billions all over the planet suffer daily. “Oops, sorry, forgot to mention that”

From a big picture perspective, there are plenty of other problems with only focusing on profit. Is it from lack of foresight?

For example you see that play out in companies who focus only on making profits every quarter. That has resulted in companies screwing over customers, destroying any loyalty.

“Why didn’t you allow that customer to return that broken product?”

“It would have lowered quarterly profits.”

“Well now they are ready to find another company to do business with. What you gained in the short term you’re losing in the long term. Where the hell did you learn how to run a business?”

“Uh…”
